Mould growing on your silicone?

Click to send this to a friend Click to print page

Have you ever noticed black spots of mould on silicone where the silicone sealant seals over the grout?

This is because most silicones don't adhere to grout very well. Often the silicone sealant lifts off, goes mouldy and in many cases the water leaks which can result in costly damage.

Selleys Wet Area Silicone Sealant however is a neutral cure or non corrosive formulation and has superior adhesion qualities, so it less likely the silicone sealant will lift at the grout joints, thereby preventing water, dirt, fungus and mould getting behind it and causing damage or resulting in those unslightly black spots.

The formulation also contains a mould inhibitor which assists in preventing the mould from growing on the sealant once it has been applied.

Selleys Wet Area Silicone Sealantis highly flexible to cope with building movement and is resistant to up to 150°C making it ideal for sealing around showers, baths, spas, sinks, plumbing fixture, laundry utilties or other wet areas which are prone to mould growth.

It is also available in white, ivory and transculent to make blending into the surrounding even easier.

Before replacing your old silicone ensure the area is clean and residue free. We recommend using Selleys Silicone Remover to do this. To read more about Selleys Silicone Remover click here.
