Araldite Ultra Clear is a strong and durable, fast setting two-part adhesive that dries crystal clear which makes it ideal for repairs where an invisible bond is required, such as glassware.
If you aren’t a confident DIYer don’t worry, the Syringe packs make using Araldite a lot easier than it used to be, follow the simple steps below and you’ll be a wiz in no time!
Materials & equipment
Before you start, make sure you have these things on hand;
· Selleys Araldite Ultra Clear 24ml Syringe Pack
· Clean cloth or rag for cleaning
· Acetone for cleaning (most nail polish removers should do the trick)
· Knife or scissors to cut pack tip
· Something to mix and apply the adhesive: Spatula, stick, matchstick, toothpick
How to Use
1. Ensure both surfaces you are going to be joining (the broken piece and portion of the item you are joining it to) are thoroughly clean and dry – this will maximise the strength of your repair.
Tip: Cleaning is as simple as wiping the surfaces to be bonded with Acetone using a rag or even a tissue should do the job, just be careful not to leave any threads as you clean the broken area.
2. Push the cap out from the syringe and put aside.
3. Using scissors or a knife, carefully cut the tip off the Araldite Ultraclear Syringe.
4. Using the plastic blister from the packaging as a mixing surface, depress the plunger to dispense equal volumes of Part A and Part B onto the mixing surface.
5. Thoroughly mix both parts together with your mixing implement.
Tip: As a guide mixing slowly for 30 – 45 seconds should ensure complete mixing.
6. Apply the Araldite Ultra Clear immediately to both surfaces sparingly and press the two parts together. The adhesive will take approximately 5 minutes to set from initial mixing. Support the bond for the entire 5 minutes.
Tip: The adhesive takes approx. 5 minutes from when mixed to set. To reduce the time you need to support the bond; Once mixed wait a couple minutes and then apply the adhesive. That way you will still have time to adjust the positioning of the pieces but the time required to support the bond will be reduced.
7. You won’t need to clamp the repair, but for best results make sure it is not disturbed for at least 20 minutes.
To clean up
8. Wipe off excess adhesive and wipe mixing utensils immediately after application (before adhesive sets).
9. After use, wipe excess product from the nozzle with a tissue dipped in acetone and replace the cap provided with the syringe and store it in an upright position, ready for next time.
Tip: Avoid using cotton wool buds for clean up as they can leave behind fluff
You should feel a sense of satisfaction and achievement in having restored your glassware to working order Now you can enjoy it again, well done!
